How is Kindergarten Different at St. Benedict?

The St. Benedict Difference-

 

Kindergarten is a crucial time for each child’s learning.  It is a chance for your child to grow in their academic and social knowledge and gain foundational skill needed to be successful throughout their academic careers. What is different between Kindergarten at St. Benedict Catholic School and other Kindergarten programs?

 

Small Class Size Class size is a key ingredient to student success allowing for individualized attention for your child. Over the last several years at St. Benedict Catholic School our Kindergarten class has averaged 18 students.

 

Attention to Each Student’s Needs- With a low student to teacher ratio, students receive the attention they need to be successful. Academic classes are taught by the classroom teacher who is supported by staff members including: a Math Specialist, a Reading Specialist, a Learning Specialist, a School Counselor, and an Instructional Aide.

 

Whole Child Development St. Benedict Catholic School focuses on more than just high-quality academics.  As is outlined in our Mission Statement, the school “encourages spiritual and personal growth, supports loving relationships, and promotes caring service to the community”.

Safe and Caring Environment- Community is important at St. Benedict Catholic School.  Community is nurtured within the Kindergarten classroom and by mentor students in older grades. Kindergarteners, for instance, are matched with Reading Buddies in the 8th grade with whom they meet throughout the year.

 

Spiritual Development- As a Catholic School, religion is an important part of who we are, how we live, and what we teach.  We teach all of our students about the Catholic faith, but we welcome students from all faith traditions and those with no religious background as well.

Experience- Our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Fitzpatrick, has been working at St. Benedict Catholic School for 12 years.  Each year she refines her practice and reevaluates her programs to help each of her students succeed.  She uses small groups to focus her instruction and help each student reach their full potential.
