    Anita Hardwick

    Anita Hardwick
    Parish Maintenance Person

Everyone will be asked this question some time in their lives; "Living or dead, whom would you like to have dinner with?"   I would choose Mother Teresa, St. Francis, and Abraham Lincoln.   Why these people, they were and are all blessed with different ways of greatness.   Mother Teresa was, and will always be a great human being.   She did what few other people will ever be able to do and to which I aspire.   She saw the face of Jesus in everyone.   St. Francis was humble and at the same time not willing to live his life how everyone thought he should, and for that he was a happier person.   Abraham Lincoln came from the poorest of the poor to help the poorest of the poor, and at the same time try to bring our country back from its lowest point in history.   These three people are who I aspire to be in my daily life.

Ian Barkis was born and raised in Olympia, Washington.    He is a graduate of Olympia High School and belonged to St. Michael Parish in Olympia.    At his home parish, Ian became more involved when he got into the LIFETEEN (high school) program.    There, he was involved in service projects, retreats, missions and a leadership group that was formed to give youth an active role in planning and carrying out LIFETEEN.    He was also, involved in the Respect Life Committee; Show the Truth Washington, a pro-life group and Forty Days for Life at Planned Parenthood in Olympia.    Ian was also, involved in many bible studies in LIFETEEN and a group that studied The Catechism of the Catholic Church.    Ian also participated in mission trips to Mount Angel, Oregon; Centralia and Juarez, Mexico.

Ian has two younger sisters and one older brother.    A few of his likes and interests include, cars, birds, videogames technology.    As well, he listens to and likes to a lot of music of many different genres.

Ian was drawn to apply for the Seminarian Formation Pogram at a QuoVadis Day's.    After discerning for about five years he was approached by a seminarian Seraphim Bamouni who felt called to invite him to consider applying for seminary.    Ian felt a stirring in his heart to do so, and after applying and going through the application process, the archdiocese placed him in the Benedict House program.

Ian is looking forward to sharing in many new experiences in ministry life.    He will also, be involved with the Junior and Senior High youth ministry with fellow Seminarian Affiliate Ben Bray.   Lastly, Ian looks forward to meeting and getting to know the entire Parish Community at St. Benedict Church and working with them.    Please keep Ian in your prayers as he continues to discern God's calling to the Seminary and Priesthood!

    Benjamin Bray

    Benjamin Bray
    Seminarian Affiliate

Benjamin Bray was born in Kirkland, Washington and raised in Renton, Washington.   He is the second of five children and was homeschooled by both his parents.    However, he attended the running start program at Bellevue College in his junior year of high school and went on to graduate with an Associate's Degree in Elementary Education.

Ben grew up at St. Anthony Parish in Renton where he was actively involved in the parish community.   Ben was part of the Junior Legion of Mary and would visit the elderly all the way through high school.   When he entered high school, he became involved in the after-school program at St. Anthony School.   Around this time, he also joined the pastoral council as the youth representative and served for two years.   He also worked with the youth of the parish in the confirmation program for two years and in junior high youth ministry.   In addition to all of these, He frequently served as altar server, acolyte, Eucharistic minster, sacristan and lector.

Ben first felt a call to serve God deeper in 2008 and felt the call become stronger with each passing year.   In 2010 after attending the Quo Vadis days (camp for young men discerning the priesthood), he felt the call to apply to the seminary program.    He was accepted as a seminarian affiliate and currently lives and works at St. Benedict's parish.   He loves the parish life and loves the people he serves.
